How Will You Choose to Lose?
More than 93 million Americans battle obesity. Obesity increases the risk of developing other diseases, like type 2 diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea and more. These conditions can have a dramatic impact on your health and overall quality of life.
If you are affected by obesity, you know first-hand that managing your weight and improving your health can be very difficult. There is not a single solution to treating obesity, as the severity of disease varies from patient to patient.

At Nashville Weight Loss Solutions, we are aware of the complexity of this disease and feel a comprehensive approach is in the best interest of our patients. We do not subscribe to a one-size-fits-all solution to obesity, rather, we offer a variety of "tools" to help patients lose weight and improve their overall health. The right combination of tools and lifestyle modification are essential to a successful obesity treatment plan.
Surgical Solutions
Weight loss surgery is commonly known as bariatric surgery and involves surgical procedures done on the stomach and/or intestines to help a person lose weight. This is usually considered an option for persons who have a Body Mass Index (BMI) above 40. It is also an option for people with a BMI of 35 to 40 who are experiencing serious health problems as a direct result of the obesity such as Type II diabetes, sleep apnea, or heart disease. The three main procedures offered today are sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, and duodenal switch
Gastric Sleeve Surgery
The Gastric Sleeve procedure, also known as sleeve gastrectomy or vertical sleeve gastrectomy (VSG), is the most common bariatric procedure performed today. It reduces weight primarily through permanently creating a smaller stomach. Secondarily, the gastric sleeve is thought to significantly reduce the production of the “hunger hormone” ghrelin, which reduces the amount of hunger patients feel after surgery.
Gastric Bypass Surgery
The Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass has long been considered the “gold standard” for obesity surgery, and, depending on your unique weight loss needs, the gastric bypass can be an excellent tool for gaining long-term control of weight.
Duodenal Switch Surgery
The Duodenal Switch (DS) procedure, also called biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch (BPD-DS), promotes weight loss by combining restriction (reduction of the stomach volume) and fat malabsorption (reducing the number of fat calories absorbed by the body via intestinal bypass). Due to the significant re-routing of intestines, the duodenal switch results in the greatest amount of weight loss compared to other bariatric procedures; however, due to it's complexity, it also has the highest complication rate.
Lap-Band® Surgery
Rarely performed today due complications and more durable options like sleeve gastrectomy, Lap-Band® surgery promotes weight loss primarily through volume restriction. A silicone band is placed around the upper-most stomach, creating a small adjustable outlet that allows for management of the rate at which food travels from the upper to the lower stomach.
Non-Surgical Solutions
Gastric Balloon
Our gastric balloon programs are a 12-month weight loss and healthy lifestyle program for adults with a Body Mass Index (BMI) 30 to 40. For the first 6 months, soft balloons rest in your stomach to help curb appetite and encourage portion control to achieve weight loss. After balloon removal, you continue to work with your support team 6 more months to ensure long-term success.
Ideal Protein
The Ideal Protein Weight Loss Method is a medically designed weight loss protocol that is only offered through preferred healthcare partners and trained coaches. It offers safe, rapid weight loss while sparing lean muscle mass. One-on-one weekly coaching sessions and daily video support are key to the program’s success. Ideal Protein strongly emphasizes the importance of education and healthier lifestyle habits for sustained weight loss.
Weight Loss Medications
There are many powerful weight loss drugs on the market today that work in different ways to suppress appetite, decrease cravings, reduce portions, and even boost metabolism. We have been utilizing these medications with great success with diet and exercise alone or in combination with other programs like the Ideal Protein Weight Loss Method or the ORBERA® Gastric Balloon.
